Lombardi’s Judith Light was ecstatic to take the stage to accept her Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Best Actress in a Play, especially since she was presented the trophy by former Ugly Betty co-star Vanessa Williams. “This is so much fun,” Light gushed backstage after picking up her award. “My close friend Vanessa Williams is hosting, and she is doing a fabulous job.”
The award marked an emotional moment for Light as Lombardi enters its final week of performances. “This experience has been extraordinary. These men I get to work with every night are not just talented, but extraordinary human beings that have touched my heart,” she said of her male co-stars lead by Dan Lauria, who plays iconic Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi.
Packer fans are known for their devotion to their team, so Light feels the late Vince Lombardi and his wife Marie would have been proud to see the show’s fans rally around her performance. “They would think this is perfect,” Light said. “We are the people’s play and this award is from the people. I couldn’t be more proud.”
